Midway Hunting
March 2010 - Midway HRC meeting
We are ready for the fun hunt test April 17th at Eagle Bluffs!
Look for the motorhome in the parking lot for info. We will begin at 9am, run the first flight of all 3 groups at the same time, break for lunch, run the opposite flight of each group, then meet for dinner at the local bar/restaurant. Please pre register for this a.s.a.p. Ribbons will be awarded for passing runs! Please be advised that the judges will allow e-collars, but only at an appropriate setting as we are going to be in a public place and do not want to show a bad example of "burning" dogs. No heeling sticks will be allowed, or anything that could be seen as "abuse" to the general public. All of this will be made clear at the handler's meeting, so please plan to attend that if you have questions. If you have anyone that would like to come throw birds, invite them to come along; we would like to keep switching out the throwers so no one is doing it for longer than one re bird break.
We had a great turn out for the training day in March!!!! (over 20 dogs) Hope everyone had a good time. We have several new members and sold some hats & shirts, too! Those will be available at the fun test if you missed out! We had some feedback that will hopefully change things for the better for future training days. The fun test in April will act as our training day for the month.
We are still looking to have our fall test at Whetstone, but no plans have been made yet.
Please be advised that the meeting place is back at Country Kitchen in Columbia.
Next meeting is April 20 at 7pm.
Re-elected vice pres Bryan West and Secretary
Tracy Richter.
Member dues are due now. Please send to treasurer
Louis Richter @
We had planned to have a spring hunt, but due to multiple circumstances will not, but we are planning a fun hunt that weekend since we have the grounds reserved. The date is April 17th at Eagle Bluffs. There will be started, seasoned, & finished land & water ran with HRC judges, but with training collars allowed and trainer help available. Great way to get your dog ready for the hunt test season or have a puppy experience test atmosphere with the back up of training devices!
For Midway HRC
members the price will be: Started $5, seasoned $10, finished $15 and for non
Midway members, $10, $15, $20. Ribbons will be rewarded and we are
planning a BBQ afterwards. Please pre register by April 10.
We are again having a booth at the Columbia
Deer Classic at the Boone County Fairgrounds March 6 & 7. Come by and see
us. We will have the duck pond with the dogs retrieving the ducks and will be
looking to recruit new members.
We are having a training day at Bryan West's house
on March 14th at 8am. Email for directions- chocolatelabs@centurylink.net
Fall hunt test plans are underway. Looking for a
place, possibly Whetstone. Date is Sept 25 & 26.
Next meeting will be at a new location. Pizza Hut
on Clark Lane in Columbia. This will be Tues, Feb. 16th.
June 2009 - Midway HRC meeting
We had to change locations for the hunt test because there are no hotel rooms in Sedalia for that weekend - there is a stud ram show at the fairgrounds, and everything is booked!
Hunt test location will be in Moberly; both finished flights at Dex's and started/seasoned at Heggemier's. The location change has not officially been approved by HRC, but we are working on that. Hunt test headquarters will likely be in Moberly. We are still looking for bird boys; have some leads, but nothing concrete, so if you know of anyone, let any member know! We have ducks, judges, and lunches. The hunt test committee will meet at the end of June to finalize things, so hopefully all details will be known at the July meeting.
We are planning a work day in August to make sure we have all equipment and everything works; more details as time gets closer.
We are having a training day June 28th (sunday). We will meet at 7am at the headquarters at Whetstone; hoping we can get started before it gets too hot!
March 2009 - Midway HRC meeting
FINALLY have a location for the hunt test in September; Hayden's property in
We are planning another training day! Saturday, April 18th at Eagle Bluffs. We will meet at 9am at the pumphouse and decide where to go from there. Bring your own lunch.
Dex is planning a seminar for May 30th. Topic will be "problem dogs". He will be pre-screening any problem dog, and working with those selected that day. You don't have to bring a dog to learn, so plan to attend. Cost is still being discussed; talking about $100 if you have been selected to bring a dog, $50 if you don't bring a dog; also DISCUSSING refunding members $50 upon attending the seminar. More info to come. Feel free to contact Dex with questions.
The deer classic booth was a big success. The duck pond (which we used our dogs to retrieve the ducks) profits paid for all our booth expenses. We also got one new family membership!
We now have Midway HRC t-shirts and hats. The shirts are screen printed front and back with our logo; $10 each. The hats are embroidered with our logo; $15 each. We will be bringing them to each meeting, and they will be available at the hunt test as well.
February 17 2009 - Midway HRC meeting
Hunt Test:
We are still looking for a location for the hunt test. We are exploring some of the same locations as past hunt test.
Deer Classic:
We are sharing a booth with Dex Doolittle at the Deer classic 2/28 & 3/1 at the Boone County Fairgrounds. We will be selling Midway HRC t-shirts and hats, having a "duck pond" and dogs, HRC brochures/applications/calendar of events, hunt test ribbons and pictures. Members can contact club president Will Frost (wilfrost@centurytel.net) if they want info or can help out.
Training Day:
We are planning to have a training day at Bryan's West house in Holt Summit house on March 14th at 9am. Bring your own meat to grill and drinks/side for lunch.
Training Seminar:
Dex Dolittle is planning a seminar for the last weekend in May. More details to come as date gets closer.
Ladies Seminar:
We are discussing sponsoring a ladies' handler seminar. Mary McCord will be attending one out of state soon, and will bring back details to help us plan one.
January 2009 Midway HRC
New officers have been elected. President and Treasurer were up for a 2 year term. The secretary position was open for a one year term as we lost our previous one.
President: Will Frost;
Treasurer: Louis Richter;
Secretary: Tracy Richter.
Some members have club dues are PAST DUE. Please contact any club officer to get your payment in or mail to: Louis Richter 2450 West Dripping Springs Rd. Columbia MO 65202
Our fall hunt test will be Sept 26-27. The hunt chairman is Ron McCord. Location is still being discussed. We are not planning a big banquet/raffle this year. One reason is because the previous location is booked; another reason is it will cut down on the amount of time and work required for the club. We are discussing having a BBQ and raffling some larger items, as well as keeping the bumper toss, puppy and youth runs, etc.
We have an increasing number of members who can judge, so we are going to need more people to work the hunts.
Recruitment is needed!!!
We are looking into getting a table at the deer classic in
We do want to see about events at Bass Pro to recruit, too.
We also discussed having a training day; if we cannot get a table at the deer classic, we may have one 2/28; otherwise, hopefully very soon after that.
The next meeting will be 2/17 (Tues) at 7pm at the Country Kitchen in
We accomplished a lot at the last meeting and have a lot more pending information to come at the next one, so plan to attend!
